Letty M-S Van Ert joined Tuft & Arnold, PLLC in 2008 as an associate attorney, but previously was employed with Tuft & Arnold, PLLC as a law clerk. Ms. Van Ert practices in family law, criminal law, and elder law. Ms. Van Ert has a special interest in Medical Assistance issues as well as basic and sophisticated estate planning.
Ms. Van Ert graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Spanish/Portuguese, English, and International Relations. Ms. Van Ert also became a member of The Phi Beta Kappa Society. Ms. Van Ert graduated cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul.
During law school, Ms. Van Ert was chosen to compete in the nationwide negotiation competition and served as an Editor on the Law Review. She was also awarded the Esther J. Tomljanovich Scholarship for Academic Excellence.
Ms. Van Ert was one of the first to serve in the Center for Elder Justice & Policy at William Mitchell College of Law. Ms. Van Ert's time at the Center was spent conducting legislative research for the Alzheimer's Association of MInnesota-North Dakota. Ms. Van Ert researched legislation that exists across the country that allows employees to use paid time off to care for elderly family members. Two publications were the product of her research: "Who's Going to Take Care of Grandma?" and " the "Fifty-State Survey." Ms. Van Ert remains committed to justice for families and the elderly. Ms. Van Ert is an active participant in the Elder Law and Probate and Trust sections of the Bar.
Prior to joining Tuft & Arnold, Ms. Van Ert worked in the area of criminal law for more than six years. Originally from Bismarck, North Dakota, Ms. Van Ert now resides in the Twin Cities with her husband, dog, and two cats.
